Melbourne cup is a horse races being held annually on first Tuesday in November at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria. This years Melbourne cup will be held today 2nd November, 2010.

 

It is one of the Australia sporting identities that described as 'a race that stops the nation'. All Australian citizens will participated by either listening to the radio or watching on TV at 3pm for the 3200m race, which is one of the longest race in the world.

 

The first Melbourne Cup was held on Thursday 7 November 1861. In Victoria, the Melbourne cup day is a public holiday since 1877.

 

Notable and famous winner in the Melbourne cup is Phar Lap, and in 2005 Makybe Diva become the first horse to win the cup three times.

 

In additions to the races, the cup is well known for the fashion display by Australian citizen from all classes of society.
